Last updated: May 20, 2026
RentEscrow ("we," "us," or "our") helps freelancers and self-employed renters qualify for housing by pledging assets in escrow in place of traditional pay stubs. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our website or services, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact details when you join our waitlist or contact us (name, email address, role as renter or landlord).
- Identity and verification information if you proceed to onboarding (legal name, date of birth, government-issued ID, address history, and other information required to comply with applicable law).
- Financial information needed to set up and monitor an escrow arrangement (asset type, custodian account references, transaction confirmations, and balances). RentEscrow does not custody your assets directly; regulated custodians do.
- Lease and landlord information you or your landlord share with us (property address, lease terms, rent amount).
- Communications you send us by email, form, or other channels.
Information collected automatically
- Device and usage data such as IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, pages visited, and timestamps.
- Cookies and similar technologies used to operate the site, remember preferences, and measure traffic. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Information from third parties
- Identity verification providers who confirm the information you submit.
- Custodians and financial institutions that hold pledged assets on your behalf.
- Landlords or property managers who confirm lease details.
2. How we use your information
- To provide, operate, and improve the RentEscrow service.
- To verify your identity, eligibility, and the assets you pledge.
- To communicate with you about waitlist status, deals, and product updates.
- To comply with legal, regulatory, and tax obligations (including anti-money-laundering and know-your-customer requirements).
- To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
- To analyze how the site is used so we can improve performance and content.
3. How we share your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run the service or as required by law:
- Service providers who help us operate the business (hosting, email delivery, analytics, identity verification, customer support).
- Custodians and financial partners involved in setting up or settling your escrow arrangement.
- Landlords you have entered or are negotiating a lease with, limited to what is needed to confirm escrow status.
- Legal and regulatory bodies when required by subpoena, court order, or other legal process.
- Successors in the event of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
4. How we protect your information
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. This includes encryption in transit, access controls, and regular review of our security practices. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. How long we keep your information
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the service, comply with our legal and regulatory obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it.
6. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion of your information, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Object to or restrict certain uses of your information.
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
- Opt out of marketing emails using the unsubscribe link in any message we send.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at me@deetercesler.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies to keep the site running and to understand aggregate usage. You can disable cookies in your browser; parts of the site may not function as intended without them.
8. Children
RentEscrow is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
